Zharnel Hughes Parents: Meet Zarnalyn And Howell Hughes: Born on July 13, 1995, Zharnel Hughes is an Anguillan-born British sprinter.

He developed a passion for the sport at a younger age and has consistently risen through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after sprinters.

At the time of this writing (June 26, 2023), Zharnel Hughes is a sprinter who specializes in the 100 meters and 200 meters.

Growing up, he had significant success representing Anguilla and currently holds the Anguillian national records in both 100 m and 200 m

He has also won sprint gold medals at the CARIFTA Games, Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships, and the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.

Since 2015, Hughes has competed internationally for Great Britain in the Olympic Games, World Athletics, and European Athletics events, and for England at the Commonwealth Games.

Representing Great Britain, he won the gold medal in both the 100 meters and 4 x 100 meters relay at the 2018 European Championships.

In 2019 he won his first global senior medal, a silver in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, and won a second medal (bronze) at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

Hughes also won gold medals in both 200 meters and 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2022 European Championships representing Great Britain.

At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he won gold in the 4 x 100 meters relay while representing England.

Hughes has a personal bests of 9.83 seconds for the 100 m and 20.02 seconds for the 200 m. The latter (20.02) makes him the fifth fastest British 200 meters sprinter in history and the 17th fastest European.

He trains with the Racers Track Club in Jamaica under coach Glen Mills, with clubmates including Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, and Delano Williams.

In June 2023, Zharnel Hughes hit major headlines after breaking the 30-year British men’s 100m record set by Linford Christie in August 1993.

On Saturday, June 24, at the NYC Grand Prix in New York, Hughes ran 9.83 seconds to take 0.04 off Christie’s long-standing

That time (9.83 seconds) is the fastest time in the world this year, and the second fastest ever by a European athlete.
