Zelous Wheeler Biography

Zelous Wheeler is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on January 16, 1987 in Childersburg, United States. Wheeler was a competitor with Brooks Conrad and Taylor Green for an infielder reserve position in spring training 2012. To increase his versatility, he began training at catcher.

After the 2014 season, the Yankees sold Wheeler to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball’s Pacific League. Wheeler signed a two-year contract worth ¥400 million (approximately $3.5 million) in October 2017, the deal includes incentives and a club option for the 2020 season.

On July 2, 2014, the Yankees promoted Wheeler to the major leagues. Making his major league debut the next day, Wheeler got his first major league hit, a home run, in his second at bat. Wheeler batted 8-for-30 (.267) with two home runs and three RBIs in 16 games for the Yankees, before he was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on August 1 following the Yankees acquisitions of Martín Prado and Stephen Drew. The Yankees recalled Wheeler on August 21, when they placed Carlos Beltrán on the DL with an elbow injury.

The Brewers released Wheeler at the conclusion of spring training. He was then claimed by the Baltimore Orioles who assigned him to Norfolk Tides of Class AAA International League. Wheeler was playing in the May 2012 Class AA Eastern League game for the Bowie Baysox. The Orioles assigned Wheeler to assignment and added Dana Eveland to their 40-man roster. He cleared waivers and was assigned to Bowie. Wheeler was a member of the Algodoneros de Guasave, a Mexican Pacific League (MPL) team in the offseason. Wheeler was a Norfolk player in 2013.

Wheeler was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 19th round, 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed with the Helena Brewers, a rookie-level Pioneer League team. He was an All-Star for both the West Virginia Power of Class A South Atlantic League (2008) and the Brevard County Manatees Class A-Advanced Florida State League 2009 seasons. Wheeler was a shortstop for Huntsville Stars in the Class AA Southern League in 2010. He made 32 errors. Wheeler started the 2011 season with the Nashville Sounds in the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. However, he was injured and missed two months. In 2011, he played in Nashville and Huntsville. Wheeler was then assigned to the Arizona Fall League. He started to catch bullpen sessions. To protect him from being picked in the Rule 5 draft, the Brewers added him to their 40 man roster. Aramis Ramirez was signed by the Brewers to a three year contract. This would have made him the third baseman for the Brewers, thereby obstructing Wheeler.

Playing for Guasave in the 2013–14 offseason, Wheeler was named player of the week on November 11. He finished the MPL season tied for second in home runs and third in runs batted in (RBIs).
