William Joppy is one of the most popular and richest Boxer who was born on September 11, 1970 in Washington, D.C., United States. Joppy returned as an Super Middleweight on July 29 2005, knocking out his opponent Rashaan Blackburn during the 3rd round. Joppy declared at the time that he was hoping to get one last title fight in his capacity as Super Middleweight before retirement. After several wins against smaller adversaries, Joppy obtained a title fight with the newly-crowned IBF champion Lucian Bute on February 29 of 2008. Bute was victorious via technical knockout at round 10. Joppy was forced to retire after the fight but returned two years two years later.
On the 14th of December 2003 Joppy fell short of his crown to Bernard Hopkins, losing by large margins of points on all three judges’ decks. The following year, Joppy lost another lopsided unanimously against Jermain Taylor.
Joppy was unable to defend his title for the second time but this time in May 12th, 2001 against Felix Trinidad in the middleweight unification tournament. Joppy suffered a knockdown during the first and fourth rounds, before getting defeated by Trinidad in round five. Following Joppy’s WBA title was taken away because of Bernard Hopkins beating Trinidad, Joppy was able to fight for it once more. Joppy won the title over British opponent Howard Eastman in a close majority decision, but Joppy was knocked down to Eastman in the closing seconds.
Following a close decision loss to Sebastien Demers in March 2010 Joppy announced his retirement from boxing, although it was not the first time that Joppy has announced that he is leaving the sport. He returned to the ring later that year, fighting Baltimore native Cory Cummings to a draw, and subsequently defeated Cummings by unanimous decision in a 2011 rematch.
