Who Is Olivia Chow?, Age, Height, Family, Net Worth: Olivia Chow is a Canadian politician born on March 24, 1957, in Hong Kong.

She attended Jarvis Collegiate Institute and studied Fine Arts at the Ontario College of Art, and philosophy and religion at the University of Toronto.

In 1979, Chow graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from the University of Guelph.

After graduation, she worked as an artist. She owned a sculpture studio and created art pieces for clients.

Chow’s political career began in 1985, as a school board trustee for six years. In 1991, she became the first Asian-born woman to become a city councilor in Toronto.

She served as councilor for 13 years and created programs such as free dental care for children in poverty and the school breakfast and lunch program.

In 2005, Chow resigned from the city council to run for a third time for a seat in the House of Commons and won.

Chow served as the New Democratic Party (NDP) member of Parliament (MP) for Trinity—Spadina from 2006 to 2014.

As a Member of Parliament for Trinity-Spadina, she introduced legislation for universal child care and improving public transit.

Chow also sponsored a motion calling Japan to apologize for forcing 200,000 women to serve as wartime sex slaves.

She announced she’s joining the long list of mayoral candidates vying for the top job, during a press conference at Dragon City Mall on Monday, April 17.

“I’ve spent my life working to build a better life for people in our city. Join me and together we will make a Toronto that cares – a city where everyone belongs,” Chow says in an announcement tweet.

Chow believes her years of experience in government on municipal and federal levels make her distinctively qualified to be the city’s next mayor.
