Janice Koh’s husband-Singaporean actress and former nominated member of parliament of Singapore, Janice Koh on December 10, 1973 in Singapore.

Koh attended Singapore Chinese Girls’ School for her secondary schooling. She later earned an honors degree in theatre studies after completing the theatre studies and drama programs at Victoria Junior College and the National University of Singapore.

Additionally, she holds a Master of Arts in Theatre with Distinction from London’s Goldsmiths College.

Janice Koh career

On television, Koh is well known for playing the ambitious lawyer Angela Ang in the courtroom drama The Pupil on MediaCorp Channel 5.

She was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the 2010 Asian Television Awards for her performance.

Other initiatives include the award-winning Singapore Short Story Project, Fighting Spiders and Chase for Channel 5, and others. She most recently portrayed Amos Lee’s eccentric mother in Okto’s The Dairy of Amos Lee.

The renowned Life! Theatre Award for Best Actress went to Koh in 2003 for her portrayal of Catherine in David Auburn’s Proof. In 2008, Koh was nominated for the same award for her performance in Ovidia Yu’s critically praised play Hitting (On) Women.

Swimming with Sharks by Pangdemonium, Cooling Off Day by W!LD RICE, Tan Tarn How’s critically acclaimed Fear of Writing, Poop by The Finger Players, which was also nominated for the Life! Theatre Best Ensemble Award, The Crab Flower Club by Toy Factory, 120, and Diaspora by TheatreWorks are just a few examples of recent work.

Koh has traveled internationally with a variety of works, including The King Lear Project at the Kunsten Festival des Arts in Brussels and TheatreWorks’ Diaspora at the Edinburgh International Festival.

In the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians, starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding and based on the critically acclaimed book of the same name by Kevin Kwan, Koh made her international acting debut. The film was directed by Jon M. Chu.

The first three books in the series are largely set in Malaysia and Singapore, where the filming took place. Warner Bros. released the movie on a global scale in 2018.

Koh was chosen in 2012 to be one of Singapore’s nine new Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs). She was picked among 47 qualified candidates after being recommended by the arts community.

Koh is renowned for her advocacy for the Singaporean artists community and her call for openness regarding the MDA’s censorship decisions.
