On April 12, 1962, Julia Margaret Flesher was born. Although her parents, Margaret and Frederic Flesher, had a furniture company named Flesher’s when she was born, her family had been farmers.

She spent her early years in Indianola, Iowa, before moving with her family to Arkansas when she was eight years old. There, her parents opened a clothes company there named Peggy Frederic’s, which she described as “a gorgeous, beautiful establishment.” Her father had returned to Indianola by 1998, while her mother was still living in Conway.
