He co-hosts the podcast TigerBelly with his then-partner, Khalyla Kuhn; and was also the co-host of the podcast Bad Friends with Andrew Santino.
Bobby Lee was born to Korean immigrant parents, Jeanie Lee and Robert Lee. He and his younger brother Steve were raised in Poway, California. His parents owned clothing stores in Escondido and Encinitas, California. He has said he was sexually assaulted at nine years old.
He attended Painted Rock Elementary School, Twin Peaks Middle School, and Poway High School. He was on the breakdancing team in high school. At 18, Bobby Lee left his family home to work in restaurants and cafes in the San Diego area and also attended Palomar College, but later dropped out.
Bobby Lee began using methamphetamine and marijuana around age 12, heroin around age 15 and attempted drug withdrawal three times before quitting drinking by age 17. After receiving negative feedback from producers, Bobby Lee relapsed on Vicodin, ending his 12 years of sobriety. After MADtv producer Lauren Dombrowski fought for him after being fired from his second series, he sobered up on Comedy Central’s television series This Is Not Happening.
On TigerBelly episode 224, Bobby Lee admitted to guest Theo Von that he had relapsed after his father’s death in August 2019 from Parkinson’s disease. He subsequently went to rehab and became sober again. Bobby Lee has stated that he is a recovering alcoholic. He is a long-time Arsenal Football Club supporter.
Bobby Lee is also an avid fan of computer games, playing FIFA, Stardew Valley, The Elder Scrolls, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Witcher series. Bobby Lee’s brother Steve Lee is a musician and a comedian. He hosts The Steebee Weebee and Carsen Bros podcasts, along with comedian Jeremiah Watkins. Along with Bobby, Steve has also made guest appearances on MADtv, most notably in a sketch starring Kim Jong Il and Tank.

Bobby Lee worked various jobs at cafes and restaurants before pursuing a career in comedy. In 1994, the coffee shop where he was working abruptly closed. He hosted the 9th MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert in 2013. In 2020, Lee began co-hosting the Bad Friends podcast with Andrew Santino.
