Batting .261 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs, DeJong was selected to represent the Cardinals at the All-Star Game in Cleveland in 2019.
In August 2020, DeJong tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the injured list. He returned to the team on August 23 and finished the shortened season hitting .250/.322/.349 with three home runs and 25 RBIs in 45 games.
DeJong was the club’s starting shortstop for the subsequent seasons until he began struggling offensively during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
He lost his starting spot and was demoted to Triple-A in early May 2022 before being recalled that July of that same year (2022).
After starting the 2023 season on the injury list, DeJong made his season debut on April 23 against the Seattle Mariners, with 2 singles and a home run.
In August 2023, DeJong hit the headlines after he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Matt Svanson on Tuesday, August 1st.
