Lola Dee is the daughter of Peter (f ather) and Ida (mother). Her father was a drummer, and she started singing before the age of 2, delighting her family.
Dee’s first public engagements were amateur shows, starting at the age of 9, with the support of her mother. She stepped back from her musical career to take care of her mother when she Alzheimer’s.
Lola Dee passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, aged 95. According to her publicist and CD producer, Alan Eichler, the iconic singer died of natural causes at a nursing facility in Hinsdale, Illinois.
In Eichler’s statement, he commented on her talent saying, “Lola’s voice was pure magic and her stage presence captivated audiences. She was a true pioneer in the music industry and will be deeply missed”
Born Lorra ine DeAngelis in 1928, Lola Dee performed in local amateur shows by the time she was 9, then sang on the ABC Radio show Teen Town, later renamed Junior Junction.
In a career spanning over five decades, she recorded for major labels like Columbia and Mercury, releasing songs like; Don’t Drop the Ball, Love Me Again, and Thrill Me Kiss Me.
Throughout her career, Dee traveled the world to locations including Mexico, Singapore, and Australia, sharing the stage with legendary performers such as Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante, and Johnnie Ray
Dee appeared as Klondike Kate, the first lady of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and performed on the Royal Caribbean International cruise line for three years.
Her last two public appearances were singing the national anthem for the Chicago Cubs and White Sox in 1978. She later worked as an executive hotel concierge.
Aside from her career as a musician, Dee was also a successful businesswoman, owning her own music publishing company and record label.
Lola Dee actively supported various charities and was known for her generosity and philanthropy.
