Tana Umaga is a New Zealand former rugby union footballer and former captain of the national team, the All Blacks who since 2016 he has been coach of the Blues in the Super Rugby competition.
He has played for the Hurricanes since the inception of the Super 12 in 1996 and was named captain in 2003, and Graham Henry named him captain of the All Blacks in 2004. Under his leadership, the All Blacks won 19 of their 22 games, including a shutout victory over the British & Irish Lions and a Grand Slam title in 2005.

In March 2010, Tana Umaga returned as a player after Christian Roamanu suffered a serious hip injury. He returned to New Zealand after the 2009/10 French season, becoming a player-manager for Counties Manukau and playing for Waikato Chiefs in the 2011 Super Rugby tournament.
It was confirmed on 23 June 2015 that Tana Umaga would take over as head coach of The Blues at the end of the 2015 ITM Cup Season. He held the position of Head Coach between 2016 and 2018, when he was replaced by Leon MacDonald, but would remain as part of a stable coaching setup as Defence coach.
