Her mother, Gloria asserted in an interview that Vanessa originally thought about joining the military at the age of six in order to defend her city and nation.

She joined the Army before completing her studies at Cesar Chavez High School because she had hoped for a better life and a strong feeling of patriotism.

After training, she felt so content that she never wanted to go back home. Guillen’s parents said she was beaming with happiness and looked lovely when she got home.

Being stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, so close to her family, the young woman was ecstatic. She was in charge of helping with accountability and inventory at Fort Hood, as well as making sure that the weapons were maintained.

But the young woman’s family saw a change in her not long after she arrived in Hood. Mayra, Vanessa’s sister, claimed that Vanessa started eating less, was underweight, and lost her earlier happiness after relocating to the military installation.

Guillén departed for Fort Hood at 5 a.m. on April 19, 2020. Her sister Mayra became aware that she was not returning calls or reacting to messages two days later.

After hearing nothing from her for several hours, Mayra and Juan made the decision to act. After picking up their car, they began the three-hour drive to Fort Hood.

Vanessa went missing the following morning. It was difficult to comprehend that someone could disappear inside a military base, therefore everyone was surprised.

Sources claim that the young child had told her mother that a sergeant at Fort Hood had sexually assaulted women, but that no one had listened to their complaints.

Military police were notified shortly after it was learned that the girl had vanished, and they used their resources to search for clues before turning to CID.
