Football has become a lucrative venture in recent time with most footballers making more than enough and these include Nigerian footballers.

For some Nigerian footballers, they couldn’t save from the huge salaries they took before they retired and as we spoke, most of these footballers are now broke.

In this article, we will be looking at some of these footballers and were they are now.

Mohammed Yusuf

The former Enyimba cum Super Eagles defender made out list after it was alleged that he is now a ‘beggar’ in Kano after he was abandoned by the authorities. He was one of the most sought after Nigerian defenders at his prime as he went on to make stints in Europe and Asia.

Celestine Babayaro

The prolific left-back was part of the Nigerian soccer team that won the 1996 Olympics. He even made his name by playing for English Premiership side, Chelsea. There were even widespread reports that he earned not less that $25000 a week during his time at Chelsea. After earning so much, he declared himself bankrupt in 2010 to the amazement of most Nigerians.

Taribo West

After making so much money during his playing days, he failed to save as he is now living by the benevolence of people. He is now a preacher.

Wilson Oruma

After making millions through football, he lost everything after he was defrauded by a quack Lagos man of God. He even suffered a mental disorder after the incident. At a point in his career, he was regarded as one of the richest Nigerian footballers.

Femi Opambunmi

Femi was the silver boot when Nigeria’s U-17 team placed second in the world cup in 2001. Per what we gathered, he didn’t save enough as he now relies on his wife’s menial savings to survive.

Ifeanyi Udeze

Ifeanyi played for top European clubs and earned millions of Naira, however, he is now broke as hell. His extravagant lifestyle coupled with his intense gambling lifestyle is the result of his present state.
