He graduated with an engineering degree in chemical engineering in 1978 from Texas Tech University in 1978.
Dunn is chairperson of the Christian Advisory Board of the Israel Allies Foundation, a non-governmental foundation founded on the 7th of July 2007 Israeli Rabbi Binyamin Elton to foster collaboration among religious supporters of Israel in the legislatures and parliaments around the world.
In June 2014, Dunn joined the board of directors of King’s College, a Christian liberal arts college located in New York City.
Dunn married his wife, Terri, after his junior year of college. They have six children and 19 grandchildren. Their two-year-old granddaughter died in 2015.
