Syamsul Yusof Parents: Meet Haslam and Fatimah – Syamsul Yusof is a Malaysian actor, writer, producer, and singer.
At the age of 25, he is the youngest director to win the Best Director award at the Malaysian Film Festival.
Since then, he has won best director awards at the Malaysian Film Festival and Anugerah Skrin six times, and he was named Best Director at the 57th Asia Pacific Film Festival in Cambodia for his work in the horror/religious film Munafik.
Munafik 2 broke the record for highest grossing Malaysian film in 2018, which it held until 2022, when it was surpassed by Mohd Syamsul’s epic war film Mat Kilau.
Syamsul Yusof received a diploma in Film, TV Broadcasting, and Journalism from the Malaysia Institute of Integrative Media (MIIM), also known as Academy TV3.
From 2003 to 2007, Syamsul Yusof directed and acted in several RTM and TV3 TV series, including Gerak Khas, Sembilu Kasih, Air Mata Maria, and Tragedi Oktober.
In 2007, he directed his first feature film, Evolusi KL Drift, which he co-wrote with his cousin Rizal Ashreff and was initially rejected by his father for redrafting. Following the revision, his first film project was approved with a budget of RM 1.35 million.
Syamsul is also interested in music. Back then, he co-produced an EP called The Love Legacy with Anwar Fazal. “Bidadari,” “Apakah Semuanya Itu,” “Ya Robbi,” and “Hingga Hujung Dunia” were among the four songs on the EP. In 2016, he released a new single, “Kalah Dalam Menang,” in collaboration with singer Mawi.
The song serves as the theme song for his most recent film, Munafik. He continued to work with Mawi on later songs, including “Bukan Propaganda,” which was used as a soundtrack for Desolasi.
On March 8, 2014, Syamsul married actress Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin. Later, he secretly married Ira Kazar in Thailand and announced the marriage on January 6, 2023. Syaikhul Islam and Sumayyah are their two children.

His father is the renowned famed director, Yusof Haslam and his mother’s name is Fatimah Ismail. His father is a Malaysian film director, producer, and actor. He is best known for his longest-running police procedural drama series Gerak Khas, which he created, directed, and produced for television. The latter resulted in three feature films. He was dubbed the “Six Million Dollar Man” due to the enormous popularity of his films.
He also owns and manages Skop Productions, a television and film production company. He debuted as a director in 1991 with Bayangan Maut, a mystery action thriller starring rock singer Ella.
This was followed by Pemburu Bayang in 1993, Sembilu in 1994, best-selling blockbuster Maria Mariana in 1996, and its sequel two years later, among other films.
