Stephanie Hsu parents-Taiwanese-American actress, Stephanie Ann Hsu was born on November 25th, 1990 in Torrance, California in the United States of America.
To escape the Chinese Civil War, her maternal grandmother fled from Mainland China to Taiwan. Her mother immigrated to the US when she was an adolescent to pursue a higher education.
Hsu attended Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. She moved to Brooklyn to pursue theatre and graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 2012. She also trained with the Atlantic Theater Company.
Stephanie Hsu career
Hsu’s career in experimental theater and comedy got started. Hsu often appeared on the MTV reality comedy series Girl Code from 2013 to 2015. In the Hulu series The Path, she received her first regular television role as Joy Armstrong.
Hsu was requested to read for Karen, the anthropomorphic computer, during the first table reading of The SpongeBob Musical in 2012. After performing the role on stage in Chicago in 2016, she would go on to make her Broadway debut the following year.
At the local Two River Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey, Hsu created the lead role of Christine Canigula for the premiere of Be More Calm.
She would play the part again in the production’s 2018 and 2019 performances on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre and off-Broadway at the Pershing Square Signature Center. She was nominated for a Lucille Lortel and a Drama Desk Award for her performance.
In 2019, Hsu took up the role of Mei Lin in the third season of the Amazon Prime series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The 2020 SAG Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series went to her and the rest of the ensemble.
In the indie movie Asking for It from 2020, Hsu starred. Her breakout performance occurred in 2022 when Hsu co-starred with Michelle Yeoh’s character as Joy Wang, a despondent daughter, and as Jobu Tupaki, a nihilistic adversary, in A24’s absurdist comedy-drama film Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Nearly everyone praised the movie when it debuted at South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2022, and both crowds and critics praised Hsu’s performance.
She was nominated for the Critics’ Choice Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also won the Independent Spirit Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance.
Hsu will play the lead in Adele Lim’s forthcoming film Joy Ride, it was confirmed in April 2021. Hsu will appear as a special guest in Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne’s Comedy series Poker Face, it was revealed in April 2021.
She will reunite with Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, another cast member from Everything Everywhere All At Once, in Disney+’s American Born Chinese.
