Early life of Scott Moir

In Canada’s London, Ontario, Moir was born. In Ilderton, Ontario, Alma and Joe Moir raised him. He is Danny Moir’s and Charlie Moir’s brother, the youngest of three sons.

With his mother and aunt working as coaches and both of his older brothers having participated in competitive skating, Moir comes from a skating family. Sheri and Cara Moir, two of his cousins, competed in the 2007 World Synchronized Skating Championships for Canada’s NEXXICE team.

After the 2014 Olympics, Moir completed his secondary education by attending both Medway High School and AMDEC, an electronic learning high school. His mother initially urged him to take up figure skating as a way to better his ability in hockey, which he played competitively well into his teen years. He started skating at the age of three.

In order to receive instruction from Igor Shpilband and Marina Zueva, Moir moved to Canton, Michigan, in the US in 2004. Following the 2014 Winter Olympics, he returned to Ilderton, Ontario.

He relocated to Montreal, Quebec, in 2016, and for the final two years of his amateur career, he and Virtue were guided by Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon.
