Brosnan was raised in a Catholic household and attended a nearby De La Salle Brothers-run school while serving as an altar boy.

On August 12, 1964, he traveled from Ireland to Scotland in order to visit his mother and her new husband, William Carmichael, at their Longniddry residence.

When Brosnan was 11 years old, Carmichael took him to see Goldfinger, the first James Bond movie. After they returned to London, Brosnan attended Elliott School in Putney, which is now known as Ark Putney Academy.

At age 16, Brosnan chose to become a painter and stopped attending school. He enrolled at Saint Martin’s School of Art in London to study commercial illustration.

He spotted a fire eater instructing others on how to consume fire while at a workshop rehearsal at the Ovalhouse and made the decision to participate. At the Drama Centre London, he completed three years of actor training.

In the DC Extended Universe movie Black Adam from 2022, Brosnan portrays Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate.

For the dark comedy movie The Matador (2005) and the miniseries Nancy Astor (1982), Brosnan has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards.

He founded Irish DreamTime, a Los Angeles-based production firm, in 1996 alongside American film producer Beau St. Clair.

He is also well renowned for his environmental advocacy and philanthropic efforts. For his services to the film industry, Brosnan received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1997.

He was ranked No. 15 on The Irish Times’ list of the best Irish performers in movies in 2020.
