Two years later, he signed with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 1975 season. Pele’s career ended on October 1, 1977, in an exhibition match between Cosmos and Santos. The game was played in front of a sold-out crowd at Giants Stadium and in the United States, and it was televised on ABC’s Wide World of Sports and broadcast worldwide.

Pele’s first international match was a 2-1 loss to Argentina on July 7, 1957, at the Maracana. He represented Brazil in that match at the age of 16 years and 9 months. He was Brazil’s youngest goalscorer when he scored his first goal as a player.

Pele is credited with coining the phrase “The Beautiful Game.” As a prolific goalscorer, he was known for anticipating opponents in the box. Additionally, he was highly known for his ability to convert chances with an accurate and powerful shot with both feet.
