Paulo Aokuso Parents: Meet Paulo Aokuso’s Parents – Paulo Aokuso is an Australian Samoan boxer who was born on May 20, 1997. He grew up in Mount Druitt, which is located in the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia.
Aokuso hails from a family of sports enthusiasts and exhibited athletic potential from an early age. In his teenage years, he competed as a shot put and discus thrower, with his sister Filoi Aokosu earning a silver medal in discus at the 2014 Australian Under-20s Championships and a place in the World Junior Championships in Oregon.
In 2013, at the age of 16, Aokuso took up boxing and soon discovered that he had a talent for the sport. His mother, Nessie, was a keen supporter of his boxing aspirations and even sparred with him. Aokuso joined the Queensland Academy of Boxing in 2014, where he trained diligently and honed his skills as a boxer.
Aokuso’s dedication and hard work paid off when he participated in the Asia-Oceania Olympic qualifying event in Amman, Jordan in March 2020. He faced Vietnam’s Manh Nguyen in the quarter-finals and won unanimously to secure a place in the tournament’s semi-finals. Aokuso then beat 2019 World Championship silver medallist Dilshod Ruzmetov from Uzbekistan and qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
At the Olympics, Aokuso competed in the men’s light heavyweight event. In the Round of 16, he faced off against Spain’s Gazimagomed Jalidov in a closely contested bout. Despite a valiant effort, Aokuso lost narrowly on points to Jalidov, ending his run in the tournament.
Aokuso’s journey as a boxer is one of determination and perseverance. He showed early potential in athletics, and his passion for boxing led him to pursue the sport with dedication and enthusiasm. His family’s support, particularly that of his mother, was instrumental in his success, and he continues to be a role model for young boxers in Australia and beyond.
