He’s best known as the Northern Irish climber who summitted Everest 10 times and one of Ireland’s most successful mountaineers.

In 2006, he climbed the world’s highest peak and then cycled from the route’s base camp to the sea in eastern India, reaching the Bay of Bengal after a marathon two-week bike ride.

According to Kathmandu-based Seven Summit Treks, Noel Hanna died on Monday, April 17 2023 on his way back from Annapurna’s 8,091m summit.

Hanna had scaled the 8,091m (26,545ft) Annapurna peak on Monday, April 17, and died overnight at a camp after making his descent.

Rescuers and helicopters were busy on the mountain on Tuesday, April 18 in an effort to locate three other Indian climbers.

Record-holding Indian climber Baljeet Kaur, 28, and compatriot Arjun Vajpai, 30, were both rescued after a search lasting hours, the tourism department said.

Another 34-year-old Indian climber, who fell into a crevasse on Monday, is yet to be found.
