Mohamed Bazoum Bio, Parents, Wife, Children, Siblings, Net Worth: Mohamed Bazoum is a Nigerien politician who served as the 10th president of Niger from 2021 to 2023.

Prior to becoming president of Niger, Bazoum was the president of the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism.

From 1995 to 1996, he served as minister of Foreign Affairs and again from 2011 to 2016. Bazoum briefly worked as minister of State at the Presidency in 2016.

He was then appointed minister of State for the Interior in 2016 but later resigned to focus on running for the 2020–21 presidential election.

Bazoum won the second round of the presidential election with 55.66% of the vote against former president Mahamane Ousmane

He assumed office in April 2021 after winning the 2020–21 presidential election and a failed coup d’état attempt.

As a member of the Arab minority Ouled Slimane people, Bazoum is the first Arab president of Niger in the country’s history.

On 26th July 2023, he was ousted in the Nigerien coup d’état by members of the presidential guard and the armed forces led by Abdourahamane Tchiani

On 27 July, Bazoum tweeted that Nigeriens who love democracy would see to it that “hard-won gains will be safeguarded”, indicating his refusal to step down from office

The African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have condemned the coup and imposed sanctions on Niger.

At this time of writing, ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum is believed to be detained at the presidential palace along with his wife Hadiza and son Salem.

On Sunday, August 13, Niger’s military announced that it would prosecute him for “high treason” and “undermining the country’s security”. The junta also slammed West African leaders for imposing sanctions on the country.
