Min Yoon-gi Parents: Who are Min Yoon-gi Parents? – Min Yoon-gi is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer better known by his stage names Suga and Agust D.
In 2013, he made his debut as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS under Big Hit Music. Agust D, his first solo mixtape, was released in 2016 and re-released in 2018 to digital download and streaming platforms, charting at number three on Billboard’s World Albums Chart.
D-2, his second solo mixtape, was released in 2020 and peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard 200, number seven on the UK Albums Chart, and number two on Australia’s ARIA Album Chart.
Min Yoon-gi, a South Korean native who was born in Daegu, enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program in Advertising and Media at Hanyang Cyber University in March 2019 after earning a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University.
After hearing Stony Skunk’s “Ragga Muffin,” which he characterized as being unlike anything he had ever heard before, he developed an interest in rap. He made the decision to pursue a career as a rapper after hearing Epik High.
He began writing song lyrics and learning about MIDI by the time he was 13 years old. He had a part-time job at a recording studio by the time he was 17 years old. Shortly after, he started writing and arranging music, rapping, and performing.
Before being signed, he was an underground rapper known as Gloss. With the hip hop group D-Town, he co-wrote and produced “518-062,” a song commemorating the Gwangju Uprising, in 2010.
Big Hit Entertainment provided Suga with three years of training before launching his career as a music producer.
He made his debut as a member of BTS on Mnet’s M Countdown with the song “No More Dream” from their debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool.
He produced and wrote the lyrics for a variety of songs on all of BTS’ albums.
For BTS’ third Korean-language extended play (EP), The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Suga released a solo introductory track titled “Intro: The Most Beautiful Moment in Life.”
On August 15, 2016, Min Yoon-gi is on record to have released a free self-titled mixtape via SoundCloud. He chose not to release the project as a commercial studio album, describing it as a “feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework.”
On the record, he spoke about his struggles with depression and social phobia. It was named one of the top 20 mixtapes of 2016 by Fuse TV. Suga composed the song “Wine” for singer Suran the following year, in 2017.
Suran heard a rough draft of “Wine” at Suga’s studio and asked for the song. The song reached number two on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart and won Best R&B Genre at the Melon Music Awards.
Suga re-composed Samsung’s signature ringtone, “Over The Horizon,” in 2021. The song debuted on August 11 as part of Samsung’s “Unpacked 2021” event. Suga later produced the Japanese singer MI’s single “You,” which was released on October 15.
Suga appeared on the single “Girl of My Dreams” from American rapper Juice Wrld’s posthumous album Fighting Demons in December. The song debuted at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Suga his second solo chart entry.
Suga was revealed as the producer of Psy’s lead single “That That” from his album Psy 9th on April 25, 2022. He also co-wrote, performed, and appeared in the music video for the single.
Suga’s stage name is derived from the first two syllables of the term shooting guard, a position he held as a student in basketball.
In 2016, he used the alias Agust D for his mixtape, which is a combination of the initials DT for his birthplace, Daegu Town, and “Suga” spelled backwards.
