Michael Shinoda (born February 11, 1977) is a musician, singer, rapper, composer, and record producer from the United States. He co-founded Linkin Park in 1996 and serves as the band’s co-lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, principal songwriter, and producer. Shinoda later formed Fort Minor, a hip-hop-driven side project, in 2004. He’s also worked as a producer for musicians such as Lupe Fiasco, Styles of Beyond, and the X-Ecutioners.

Shinoda, who was born in Panorama City, Los Angeles, and reared in Agoura Hills, founded Xero, which subsequently became Linkin Park, in 1996 with two high school friends: Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon, and was later joined by Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell, and Mark Wakefield. Chester Bennington replaced Wakefield as lead vocalist in Linkin Park in 1999. Later, the band signed a record deal with Warner Bros Records.

Michael Shinoda (Japanese:, romanized: Shinoda Kenji) was born in Panorama City, California on February 11, 1977, and raised in Agoura Hills, California. His father is of Japanese ancestry. He was reared as a liberal Protestant and has a younger brother named Jason. When Shinoda was six years old, his mother urged him to attend classical piano lessons. By the age of 13, he expressed a desire to pursue jazz, blues, and hip-hop. During his middle and high school years, he expanded his repertoire to include guitar and rap-style vocals.

Shinoda went to Agoura High School alongside future Linkin Park members Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon. The three created the band Xero and began to seek a career in the music industry. Shinoda attended Pasadena’s Art Centre College of Design after graduating from high school to study graphic design and illustration. He studied under DJ and turntablist Joseph Hahn. He went through an identity problem while attending the Art Centre College of Design.
