Martina Navratilova Parents: Meet Mirek And Jana: Martina Navratilova is a Czech–American former professional tennis player born on October 18, 1956, in Prague, Czechia.
She started her career at a very young age and has been consistent throughout until she retired. Martina Navratilova is widely regarded as among the greatest tennis players of all time.
During her active years in playing tennis, she won 18 major singles titles, 31 major women’s doubles titles, and 10 major mixed doubles titles, for a combined total of 59 major titles, the most in the Open Era. She was inducted into the Hall of fame in 2000.

Martina Navratilova is involved with various charities that benefit animal rights, underprivileged children, and gay rights. She’s also a Democrat and has donated more than $25,000 to Democratic campaigns.

In January 2023, Martina Navratilova made the headlines after she was diagnosed with throat and breast cancer. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion will start treatment in New York later this month.

Her parents divorced when she was 3 and her mother moved the family to Řevnice. In 1962, her mother, Jana married Miroslav Navrátil, who became her (Martina) first tennis coach.
Martina then took the name of her stepfather and added the feminine suffix (ová), hence becoming Martina Navrátilová.
Martina Navratilova’s biological father, Mirek was a ski instructor and her mother was an accomplished gymnast, tennis player, and ski instructor.
