Mark Telea was born to Maleko Telea and Tuala Telea. He is reported to have about 24 siblings; both biological and adopted siblings. While his mother is of Samoan descent, his father was born in South Africa.

Mark Telea career

Telea was included in the Blues squad for the 2020 Super Rugby season after displaying excellent performance for North Harbour during the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup season.

The Blues’ first-choice left wing to begin the season was Telea. The Blues staff’s confidence in Telea was rewarded by his early-season performance.

In a rainy Newcastle match during Round 2, Telea scored three tries as the Blues upset the Waratahs 32-12. In Round 4 against the Bulls in Pretoria, Telea crossed once more and scored beautifully to dot the ball down as two defenders forced him into touch.

As a result of his sustained success in Super Rugby Aotearoa, he was selected for the North Island in the North vs. South rugby union match in the middle of 2020.

Telea made his Mako debut in Round 1 against Counties Manukau after being selected for the Tasman team for the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup.

In the 2020 season, Telea participated in 11 games for the Mako, who went on to win the premiership title twice in a row.

In the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman tournament, Telea had a mixed 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season but found his form again, scoring a try in the championship game as the Blues overcame the Highlanders 23-15.

Telea sustained a season-ending injury while competing for Tasman against Northland in Round 3 of the 2021 Bunnings NPC. The team advanced to the championship game but fell to Waikato 23-20.

After a standout 2022 Super Rugby season with the Blues, Telea was called up to the All Blacks team on June 30, 2022, as a substitute.

He was selected at age 14 to start against Scotland on November 12, 2022. His first game saw him score two tries.

He scored two tries against France on September 8, 2023, in the tournament’s opening match, the fastest opening try in the tournament’s history. His first try came 91 seconds after the game began.
