In December 2013, Urías agreed to terms with the San Diego Padres as an unrestricted foreign free agent. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Rookie League Dominican Summer League Padres before being promoted to the Rookie League Arizona League Padres after two games.

Over the course of 45 games with both teams, he split his time between second base and third base and hit.297 with 14 runs batted in (RBIs), posting his first professional average.

He participated in the Mexican Pacific Winter League’s Yaquis de Obregón during the winter of 2014–15, batting.158 in 12 games.

He participated in 61 games for the Class A Tri-City Dust Devils and Class A Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2015, batting.299 with a combined total of 17 RBIs and no home runs.

He played once again for the Yaquis de Obregón of the Mexican Pacific Winter League in the winter of 2015–16, batting.280 with no home runs and 11 RBIs in 36 games.

Urías spent most of 2016 playing for the Class A+ Lake Elsinore Storm, for whom he batted in 120 games.330 with 52 RBIs, a.397 OBP, five home runs (his first in the minor leagues), and a.836 OPS.
