Lubna Olayan is one of the most popular and richest Entrepreneur who was born on August 4, 1955 in Saudi Arabia. Olayan was appointed Chairwoman of Saudi British Bank (SABB) on June 16, 2019. This made her the first Saudi woman to lead a bank. She was reappointed in January 2020 for a term of three years and was then able to continue to hold the position following the merger between SABB Bank and Alawwal Bank.
Olayan was named a non-executive director on the Board of WPP in February 2005. In December 2004, she was elected to the Board of Saudi Hollandi Bank (now Alawwal Bank), which is a Saudi Arabian publicly traded company. She joined the International Advisory Boards of Rolls-Royce in September 2006, and Citigroup in April 2007.
Olayan is a Board member of INSEAD’s International Council and joined it in December 2005. Olayan was elected to the Cornell University Board of Trustees in April 2007. Olayan was also elected to the Advisory Board of Effat College in April 2006. This is a private, non-profit college for girls in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). Olayan is also a member of the Alfanar board, which was founded in 2004 by Tarek Ben-Halim as a venture philanthropy organisation. Since January 2002, Olayan has been a member of the Board of Trustees at the “Arab Thought Foundation,” an think tank based out of Beirut that focuses on the issues facing the Arab World. Olayan was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Down Syndrome Charitable Association, a non-profit organization located in Riyadh. Olayan was also elected to the Board of Trustees of King Abdullah University for Science and Technology. She was elected to the MIT Corporation in June 2018.
Olayan was the Chief Executive Officer of the Olayan Financing Company, and (OFC), the holding entity for the Olayan Group’s operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East until May 1st 2019, when she was replaced by Jonathan Franklin. She also sits on the board of the group along with her brother Khaled and sisters Hayat and Hutham. It is thought that the private family has accumulated a fortune that tops $10 billion. The group was founded in 1947 by her father, the late entrepreneur Sulaiman S. Olayan, The Olayan Group is a private multinational enterprise engaged in distribution, manufacturing, services and investments. OFC operates or actively participates in more than 40 companies, often in partnership with leading multinationals. OFC is also one of the largest investors in the Saudi and regional stock markets. In April 2019, Olayan announced her retirement as CEO of Olayan Financing Company.
