Lleyton Hewitt Wife: Meet Bec Hewitt – Lleyton Hewitt also played Australian Football until he was 13, at which point he decided to pursue a tennis career. Seaside Tennis Club in Henley Beach was his junior tennis club. Peter Smith also coached him at Denman Tennis Club in Mitcham.
Hewitt’s professional career began in 1998. He became one of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournament’s youngest winners when he won the 1998 Next Generation Adelaide International, defeating Jason Stoltenberg in the final after defeating Andre Agassi in the semi-finals.
Aaron Krickstein, who won Tel Aviv in 1983, and Michael Chang, who won San Francisco in 1988, were both younger than Hewitt when they won their first ATP title. Hewitt then dropped out of Immanuel College to focus on his tennis career.
He had a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport. He retired from professional tennis on January 24, 2016, after 20 consecutive Australian Open appearances.
On 21 January 2016, he played against David Ferrer in the second round of the 2016 Australian Open at the Rod Laver Arena. Lleyton Hewitt was inducted into the ‘International Tennis Hall of Fame’ in 2022.
Hewitt had a 44-19 singles record as a junior and rose to No. 17 in the world in 1997.
Hewitt made his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in 2000, partnering Belgian Kim Clijsters, his then-girlfriend. They were defeated by Kimberly Po and Donald Johnson of the United States.
Hewitt began the 2001 season with a victory at the Medibank International in Sydney, and went on to win tournaments in London (Queen’s Club) and’s-Hertogenbosch.
Hewitt had another successful year in 2002, winning three titles in San Jose, Indian Wells, and London (Queen’s Club). He won the Wimbledon singles title after winning the US Open in 2001.
Hewitt won the Indian Wells Masters in 2003, defeating former No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten. Hewitt, the defending champion, was knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon by qualifier Ivo Karlovi. Hewitt became the first defending Wimbledon men’s champion to lose in the first round in the open era.
In 2004, Hewitt became the first man in history to lose to the eventual champion in each Grand Slam singles tournament. In the fourth round of the Australian Open, he was defeated by Swiss Roger Federer.
Hewitt won his only title at the Sydney Medibank International in 2005, defeating unknown Czech player Ivo Miná. Hewitt spent a lot of time in the late stages of 2004 working on bulking up with his former coach and good friend, Roger Rasheed.
Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina defeated Hewitt in the second round of the 2006 Australian Open. He then advanced to the finals of the tournaments in San Jose and Las Vegas, where he was defeated by British youngster Andy Murray and American James Blake, respectively.
Hewitt began the 2015 season as the defending Brisbane International champion. In the first round, he was defeated in straight sets in 58 minutes by fellow Australian Sam Groth. As a result, he fell from No. 50 to No. 84 and lost his position as No. 1 Australian, which he had held for several months.
Hewitt, who had previously stated his intention to retire after the 2016 Australian Open, confirmed that his final season would include the Australian Open, the Hopman Cup, and the exhibition World Tennis Challenge.
In his 20th appearance at the Australian Open, he defeated fellow Australian James Duckworth in straight sets in the first round. He was then defeated in the second round in three consecutive competitive sets by David Ferrer.
Hewitt announced in December 2017 that he would come out of retirement and accept a doubles wildcard with compatriot Sam Groth at the 2018 Australian Open.
Hewitt and Jordan Thompson accepted a wildcard to compete in the Doubles competition at the 2018 Brisbane International. They were knocked out in the first round by Grigor Dimitrov and Ryan Harrison.

Rebecca June Hewitt is a singer and actress from Australia. Hewitt starred as Hayley Smith Lawson on the soap opera Home and Away from 1998 to 2005. In 2002, Hewitt released an eponymous pop music album as Bec Cartwright. She married Lleyton Hewitt in 2005.
She began her acting career in television commercials at the age of five. She made her mainstream television debut on an episode of Police Rescue in 1992. She has also appeared as a guest star in Water Rats and Roar.
In 1998, she landed her breakthrough and most well-known role as Hayley Smith Lawson on Home and Away. Cartwright became a fan favorite on the show and received numerous Logie Award nominations until 2005.
She was born on July 23, 1983, in Sydney, the youngest child of Darrel and Michelle Cartwright. She has an older brother and a younger sister.
