Keaton Mitchell career
In 2020, Mitchell played in nine games for East Carolina as a true freshman, starting two of them. He finished with 88 rush attempts for 443 yards with two touchdowns and 11 receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown.
He became the first player to reach 1,000 running yards at ECU since Tay Cooper in 2013 as he started all 12 games in 2021.
In addition to leading the American Athletic League (AAC) in all-purpose yards per game (115.83) and total rushing yards (1,132), he was selected to the first team of the league. He also finished well in the conference rankings for four other metrics.
During that season, he recorded four games with 100 yards or more gained through rushes, the finest of which being his 222 yards versus Tulane, the best ever by an ECU freshman.
In 2022, Mitchell led the nation in FBS runs of more than 10 yards with 54, while also rushing for 1,452 yards and 14 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Nine of their twelve games saw him run for more than 100 yards, and he also had 27 receptions for 252 yards and one touchdown. Pro Football Focus (PFF) selected him as an honorable mention All-American, and he was first-team All-AAC for the second year in a row.
Following the season, Mitchell announced his intention to enter the NFL Draft. He concluded his time at East Carolina with 3,027 running yards and an average of 6.5 yards per carry.
Mitchell was predicted to be chosen in the NFL Draft of 2023. The New Orleans Breakers also selected him in the fourth round of the 2023 USFL draft.
The Baltimore Ravens signed Mitchell as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023. Mitchell was ranked among the top ten undrafted free agent signings from the 2023 NFL Draft class by Pro Football Focus.
The Ravens declared on August 29, 2023, that he had made the first 53-man roster; however, two days later, he was placed on injured reserve.
October 14 was his activation date. The following day, in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans, Mitchell made his NFL debut, appearing just on special teams in the 24–16 victory.
He scored his first NFL rushing touchdown in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks, going 138 yards on nine rushes in addition to recording a -4-yard reception. The game ended in a 37-3 thrashing. He was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for his efforts.
Mitchell hurt his knee in the fourth quarter of a Week 15 Sunday Night Football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars during a tackle by safety Andrew Wingard of the Jaguars.
Mitchell was sent back to the locker room for more testing after being declared out right away. It was revealed following the game that he had torn his ACL and would miss the remainder of the campaign.
