He was born on 10 September 1933 in Hamburg, Germany.

Karl Lagerfeld completed his secondary school at Lycee Montaigne in Paris. He had always had a keen interest in design and fashion.

He was hired by French Designer “Pierre Balmain’s” after winning coats category competition sponsored by the International Wool Secretariat in 1955.

Later, he moved to Jean Patou where he worked for five years.
