Jamie Carragher Wife: Meet Nicola Hart – James Lee Duncan Carragher, known as Jamie Carragher, is a retired English professional footballer and current football pundit. Born on January 28, 1978, Carragher played as a defender for Liverpool in the Premier League for 17 years.
He is considered a one-club man, having spent his entire career with Liverpool. During his time with the club, he served as the vice-captain for 10 years and holds the record as Liverpool’s second-longest serving player. On May 19, 2013, he made his 737th appearance for Liverpool in all competitions. Carragher is also the record holder for the most appearances in European competition for Liverpool with 149.
Carragher started his professional career at the Liverpool Academy and made his debut in the 1996-1997 season. He became a regular in the first team the following season, playing initially as a full-back. However, the arrival of manager Rafael Benítez in 2004 saw Carragher move to the center-back position, where he found his best form. With Liverpool, Carragher won two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup, and two Super Cups.
Carragher also played for England, holding the national record for most caps at under-21 level. He made his senior debut in 1999 and represented England at UEFA Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. In 2007, he retired from international football but returned to represent England at the 2010 FIFA World Cup before retiring again with 38 senior England caps.
After retiring from professional football, Carragher joined Sky Sports as a commentator and pundit in 2013. In July 2020, CBS Sports announced that Carragher would join their Champions League studio broadcast team.
Jamie Carragher is involved in various charitable activities. In 2009, he established the 23 Foundation, which aims to help underprivileged youth in Merseyside. He donated all the proceeds from his testimonial year to the foundation in 2010, which generated an initial fund of £1 million.
In August 2015, Carragher visited “Carragher’s,” a pub in New York dedicated to his career at Liverpool. He announced that he would participate in Soccer Aid, a charity football match to support UNICEF, alongside former teammate Robbie Fowler.
In January 2018, Carragher visited Kingsway House, a shelter in Liverpool for rough sleepers that had been established by the hotel company Signature Living. During his visit, he spent time talking to homeless residents and volunteers and announced plans for a charity football match featuring ex-Liverpool and ex-Everton players and celebrities.
Carragher has also worked with Andy Grant, a former Royal Marine and Liverpool fan who lost his right leg due to a bomb explosion in Afghanistan. Carragher has helped to promote Grant’s story and his autobiography.
