In 2011, Casali and his college team made it to the College World Series semifinals before being eliminated by Florida. He joined the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League during the collegiate summer baseball season.
Casali was then selected by the Detroit Tigers in the tenth round, 317th overall of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. He signed on July 1, 2011 and received a signing bonus of US$40,000.
After signing for the Tigers, Casali joined Class A- Connecticut Tigers of the New York-Pennsylvania League. That season, he batted .278/.409/.417 with one home run and two RBIs in 26 at bats and then to the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League, batting .227/.344/.400 with 2 home runs and 14 RBIs in 75 at bats.
Casali made his debut same night against the Minnesota Twins, recording a hit in his first at bat and a run later in the inning. He batted .167 in 72 at bats.
