Lewis won gold medals at the 400-meter individual medley, 200-meter butterfly, 400-meter freestyle, and 4200-meter freestyle relay events at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. In the 200-meter individual medley, she also took home a bronze medal.

She earned gold in the 200-meter freestyle, silver in the 400-meter freestyle, silver in the 400-meter individual medley, and bronze in the 200-meter butterfly at the 1991 World Championships in Perth.

Lewis concentrated on the 800-meter freestyle for the remainder of her career; her best Olympic finishes in this event were a silver at the 1992 Summer Olympics and a silver at the 1994 Rome World Championships.

In Barcelona, she also took home a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle. In the 5-kilometer open water competition at the 2001 World Aquatics Championships, Lewis took home the bronze medal.

Although the 10-kilometer open water event was eliminated from the 2004 Summer Olympics, she still intended to try to qualify for it. She took part in three Olympic games.

Between 2010 and 2014, Lewis served as the host of The Biggest Loser’s Australian edition. In 2002, she opened the first swimming facility housed inside a sizable Australian mall at Westfield Carindale in Brisbane.

Lewis’s pool was demolished as part of Westfield’s redevelopment plans in September 2010. She now runs Coming Up Roses, a gift and home décor shop in Brisbane.
