The suspect was discovered in a house just miles from the site of the killings in Cleveland, Texas. According to Sheriff Greg Capers, Oropesa was found hiding in a closet underneath some laundry and was uninjured during arrest. Currently, he is being taken to the sheriff’s facility in Coldspring.

Although the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office stated that Oropesa was caught in Cut and Shoot, the FBI Houston office tweeted that he was actually found in Conroe, a neighboring city. The suspect will be held on five counts of murder, with bond set at $5 million, according to the sheriff.

However, a tip submitted through the FBI’s tip line eventually led authorities to the suspect’s location, according to Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul, who expressed gratitude for the brave person who provided the tip. The tip came in at 5:15 p.m. local time, and Oropesa w as apprehended at 6:30 p.m.

“He expressed gratitude towards the individual who had the courage to report the suspect’s whereabouts,” as stated by the speaker.

As per a law enforcement source, besides following the tip, officials also traced Oropesa’s wife to a residence linked to one of his family members located near Cut and Shoot. It remains unclear whether this happened before or after the FBI received the tip.

A team comprising members from the Texas Department of Public Safety, US Marshals Service, and US Customs and Border Patrol’s Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC), entered the aforementioned residence and apprehended the suspect, as reported by an FBI Houston spokesperson.

Investigations are underway to determine if anyone aided the suspect in hiding, shared San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon with CNN on Tuesday.

According to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation, Oropesa is scheduled to appear before a magistrate in San Jacinto County on Wednesday. The authorities have 90 days to indict the suspect.
