According to the ANP news agency, RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen suffered an injury that knocked him unconscious during a league match against Ajax on Saturday. As a result, the match was abandoned.

With just a few minutes remaining in the match, Vaessen collided with Ajax’s striker Brian Brobbey, giving Ajax a 3-2 lead.

Ground staff hurriedly wrapped the injured goalkeeper in blankets as doctors from both clubs tended to him while other players watched in shock on television.

While some athletes sobbed, others formed a circle around Vaessen. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was carried off the pitch on a stretcher before the game was called off.

The stadium announcer reported that several players were too agitated to continue playing. Following the game, several rival teams, notably PSV and Feyenoord, sent the goalie supportive comments on social media.
