Canadian musician and guitarist, Éric Lapointe was born on September 28th, 1969 in Montreal, Quebec in Canada.

Lapointe performs with his own band. His band is known for its heavy metal sound that incorporates riffs from hard rock, punk, pop, and grunge guitarist Stéphane Dufour.

Lapointe was born on September 28th, 1969 in Montreal, Quebec in Canada. He was born to Doris Lapointe and Serge Lapointe.

Lapointe is the eldest of three brothers. The names of his two younger brothers are Marc and Hugo who is also a singer but started off as a technician for his brother’s band.

Due to his father’s occupation as military officer, Lapointe by the age of sixteen had moved from one destination to the other thirteen times. As a result, he was shy and reserved, had difficulty making friends and stayed close to his mother, Doris.

Lapointe requested his father for a toy guitar from a Sears catalog when he was nine years old. Instead, his father gave him a real guitar, and with the help of his musician uncle, Lapointe quickly mastered chord strumming. At the age of ten, he created his first songs, and at the age of 15, he began performing live in France and Quebec.

Lapointe joined the Parti Québécois at the age of 18 after being discovered by Yves-François Blanchet, a previous leader of l’ADISQ, who later oversaw the development of his early career. Lapointe began by performing at neighborhood clubs and CEGEPs.

Lapointe held additional jobs as a garbage collector, waiter, pool installation technician, and credit card salesman to support his income.

Lapointe and Roger Tabra wrote his first number-one single, “N’importe quoi,” when he was 20 years old. Lapointe staged a showcase for record industry scouts at a well-known club named Club Soda despite having little money.

Lapointe received a record contract offer from Patrice Duchesne, a Disques Gamma representative, after being impressed by his talent. Obsession, his 1994 debut album, was produced in part by Gamma. The album’s production by Aldo Nova led to considerable conflict within the band.

Over 100,000 copies of Coupable (“Guilty”), which Lapointe released in November 2004, were sold in the first few weeks. In total, 900,000 CDs were sold over the course of 12 years for his first five platinum-certified albums. Adrénaline, a double album including 25 live tracks, some of which are covers, was released on April 8th, 2002.

He also contributed to the creation of Le Petit Ro, and his rendition of Jean-Pierre Ferland’s “Une chance qu’on s’a” attracted particular attention. A few weeks later, Lapointe published Coupable, which went straight to platinum status.

The song “La Bartendresse,” with a video written by Quebec actor Patrick Huard, was the most well-known success. The great part of this record was written by Lapointe. Ma Peau, Lapointe’s fifth studio album, was released on April 22, 2008. Dufour, the band’s guitarist since before Obsession, and Lapointe split up before the album’s release.

In addition to a trio with Garou and Claude Dubois, the 2009 compilation CD Ailleurs, Volume 1 features duets with Céline Dion, Isabelle Boulay, Dan Bigras, Nanette Workman, and Les Divans. Lapointe and Marjo collaborated on a blues-rock ballad version of her 1990 hit song “Ailleurs.” It may be found on Marjo et ses Hommes, her best hits compilation CD.

Roger Tabra, Aldo Nova, and Dufour are all back for his sixth studio album as cowriters, guitarists, and producer, respectively. These tunes cover subjects like friendship and suicide.

Lapointe Symphonique, which was produced in 2011, was a result of its collaboration with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. He has served as one of the four judges for La Voix, The Voice’s equivalent in Quebec, since 2014.
