At the age of four, Edgar’s family welcomed a new addition, a baby boy named Adrián. The younger brother, Adrián Gonzalez, went on to achieve success in Major League Baseball, earning five All-Star selections and playing for five different big league clubs.
Edgar also carved out a commendable career in baseball. He played high school baseball in the San Diego area and pursued higher education at San Diego State. In 2000, he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 30th round of the amateur draft.
After retiring from playing, Edgar transitioned into coaching. He managed the Águilas of Méxicali during the 2015-2016 season, earning recognition as the league’s “Manager of the Year.” Subsequently, he took on the role of managing the Charros in Guadalajara for the 2016-2017 season and had the prestigious opportunity to lead the Mexican National Team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Despite the Mexican team not reaching their full potential in the World Baseball Classic, González returned to Mexico, focusing on further refining his managerial skills and contributing to the development of baseball in the country.
