Easton Stick career
Stick attended North Dakota State University to play collegiate football. Stick holds the record for most wins by a starting quarterback in NCAA Division I FCS history with a 49-3 record while starting for North Dakota State.
In the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Stick was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 166th overall selection.
Stick did not play in any regular season games, but he did take snaps during the preseason. It was anticipated that he would replace Tyrod Taylor as the backup quarterback. Instead, Stick was not scheduled to play, and Chase Daniel was signed on as a backup.
Stick had a brief appearance in Week 3 following the apparent injury of starting quarterback Justin Herbert. But the Chargers took a timeout and Herbert was back in the game before Stick could take his first professional snap.
In order to retain Stick as Herbert’s backup, the Chargers re-signed him on March 13, 2023, for a one-year contract. Stick replaced Herbert in Week 14 after the latter sustained a finger injury during the second quarter. Stick threw for 179 yards in a 24–7 loss to the Denver Broncos in his first game since 2020.
After it was apparent that Herbert would require surgery that would terminate his season, the Chargers announced on December 12 that Stick would take over as the starting quarterback.
