American lawyer and politician, Donald McEachin was born on October 10th, 1961 in Nuremburg in Germany. He died on November 28th, 2022.
McEachin suffered from colorectal cancer in 2014 and disclosed in 2018 that he had developed a fistula and had lost more than 60 pounds (27 kg) as a result.

He was the Democratic candidate for Virginia attorney general in 2001 but fell short to Jerry Kilgore. In the Democratic primary in June 2020, McEachin defeated R. Cazel Levine for the nomination. In the main election that November, he defeated Republican nominee Leon Benjamin.
McEachin ran for the state senate in 2007, taking on incumbent Benjamin Lambert of the 9th district. Lambert had come under fire from Democrats for endorsing Republican U.S. Senator George Allen during Allen’s losing reelection bid against Jim Webb in 2006.
McEachin won the general election with 81% of the vote over independent Silver Persinger after defeating Lambert in the primary by a margin of 58% to 42%. In 2011, McEachin ran unopposed for reelection.
He served as the U.S. representative for Virginia’s 4th congressional district from 2017 until his death in 2022. His district was based in the state capital, Richmond; it included much of the area between Richmond and Hampton Roads.
McEachin, a Democrat, held two terms in the Virginia House of Delegates, from 2006 to 2008 and 1996 to 2002. He represented the 9th district, which includes Charles City County, Henrico County, and sections of Richmond, in the Virginia Senate from 2008 to 2017.
In the general election, McEachin received 57.3% of the vote to win the open seat in Virginia’s 4th congressional district left vacant by Republican Randy Forbes in 2016.

Colette became interim Commonwealth’s Attorney for Richmond (having served in that office for 20 years), won the Democratic nomination on August 10, 2019, and was unopposed in the special election on November 5, 2019.
