Don Gummer attended Ben Davis High School, and from 1964 to 1966, he studied at the Herron School of Art.
From 1966 to 1970, Gummer attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and then completed his studies at the Yale School of Art where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA).
In October 2023, Don Gummer hit the headlines following reports that he and his wife, Meryl Streep have been living apart in recent years.
The news was confirmed by a representative of Meryl Streep in a statement on Saturday, 21 October,
“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” the representative said.
Don Gummer and her wife, Meryl Streep first married on September 30, 1978. In September 2023, they marked their 45th wedding anniversary.
Gummer and Streep were photographed at numerous events together over the years. They were last seen together in 2018.
As a sculptor, Gummer’s early work concentrated on table-top and wall-mounted sculpture but along the line (in the mid-1980s), he focused on large free-standing works, often in bronze.
In the 1990s, he added a variety of other materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum, and stained glass. His interest in large outdoor works also led him to an interest in public art.
