Dominic Pezzola Bio, Age, Parents, Wife, Children, Net Worth – Dominic Pezzola, an American member of the Proud Boys, gained notoriety for his involvement in the violent January 6 United States Capitol attack.
Dominic Pezzola Biography
During this attack, he made history by using a stolen police riot shield to break a Capitol window, becoming the first rioter to do so.
Residing in Rochester, New York, Pezzola’s early life and background reveal interesting facets. He completed his education at The Aquinas Institute of Roc hester in 1995, a period during which his classmates characterized him as an “aloof and temperamental individual.” Notably, he possessed considerable talent as a boxer, and this aptitude often led him into confrontations and fights with others.
Upon completing high school, Pezzola made a pivotal decision to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. His role within the military was that of an infantry assaultman, a position he held from 1998 to 2005. Despite his military service, it is noteworthy that he never experienced deployment into active combat zones during his tenure. Ultimately, Pezzola was discharged from the Marine Corps with the rank of corporal.
Following his military service, Pezzola transitioned into civilian life, where he pursued a career as an entrepreneur. He became the owner of a flooring company, demonstrating his commitment to his business endeavors and livelihood.
In 2021, he faced federal charges and subsequently went on trial in 2023, alongside Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio and other key figures, including Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, and Zachary Rehl. In May 2023, following a five-month jury trial, Pezzola was convicted on charges that included obstructing a congressional proceeding and assaulting a police officer. Notably, he was acquitted of the most serious charge of seditious conspiracy, which his co-defendants were found guilty of. The jury also reached a deadlock on other charges related to obstructing the counting of electoral votes.
Prosecutors sought a 20-year sentence for Pezzola, highlighting his role in the initial breach of the Capitol using the stolen police shield. However, on September 1, 2023, he received a 10-year prison sentence, as U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly rejected the recommended sentencing guidelines, stating that the terrorism adjustment overstated Pezzola’s role and intentions during the attack. During his sentencing, Pezzola expressed regret for his actions and apologized to the officer whose shield he had taken. Nevertheless, as he left the courtroom, he loudly declared, “Trump won!”
