Deb Hope Children: Meet Her 2 Daughters: Born on October 11, 1955, Deb Hope, officially known as Deborra Jane Hope was a Canadian journalist, anchor, and producer.

She developed a love for journalism at a younger age and was consistent throughout her career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after journalists.

At school, University of British Columbia, she started her journalism career reading news on the campus radio station, CiTR, and reporting for the school’s newspaper, The Ubyssey.

She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Later, she attended Carleton University in Ottawa where she received a Bachelor of Journalism (Honors)

After school, Hope worked as a junior reporter for The Canadian Press before returning to British Columbia to join the now-defunct United Press Canada.

Hope was best known as a reporter and anchor at BCTV’s (now Global) noon, 5 p.m., and flagship 6 p.m. broadcast until she retired at age 59 in 2014.

In October 2020, it was disclosed that she had developed Alzheimer’s disease, with mild symptoms beginning to show at the time she retired.

Her coworkers said they noticed she started making mistakes with names and words while reading the news and seemed to be gradually getting forgetful and confused.

As part of the 2022 Canadian honors, Hope was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada (CM) “for her contributions to Canadian journalism as a reporter and anchor, and for her tireless involvement as a volunteer.”

Sadly, the former BC anchor and reporter has died. Deb Hope passed away on Monday, May 16, 2023, at the age of 67.

At the time of this writing, the cause of her death has not yet been made public. The former journalist lived in a long-term care facility in Vancouver until her death.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Deb Hope,” Global B.C. said in a statement. “She was one of the most iconic faces in B.C. for decades and will be deeply missed. We are thinking of her family and loved ones.”
