David Soul Age, Height & Weight: David Soul, an American-British actor best known for his role in the television series; ‘Starsky & Hutch’ has passed away. He was 80.

The actor died on Thursday, January 4, 2024. “David Soul—beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother—died yesterday after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family,” Soul’s family said in a statement released by his wife Helen Snell on Friday.

“He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched”

Born in Chicago on 28 August 1943 as David Solberg, he spent his childhood between South Dakota and post-Second World War Berlin.

He picked up an interest in music as a teenager in Mexico, where his father was a professor at a college for young diplomats. Soul started his professional career as a folk singer, warming up audiences for stars like Frank Zappa, the Byrds, and the Lovin’ Spoonful.

He first gained national attention in 1967 when he appeared on “The Merv Griffin Show” as “The Covered Man,” a singer who performed while wearing a mask and looked more like a bank robber than a blues singer.

The US-born actor began his acting career as a founding member of the Firehouse Theatre Company in Minneapolis. His big break came following his role as Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson in the classic crime-solving series Starsky & Hutch.

The show, which ran from 1975 to 1979, became one of the most popular TV shows of all time and turned Soul and Glaser into small-screen stars. He appeared in several British television programs including “Holby City”, “Little Britain” and “Lewis”

Soul was also known for his roles in Here Come The Brides, Magnum Force, The Yellow Rose, and Salem’s Lot. As a singer, he scored a U.S. chart-topping hit in 1977 with “Don’t Give Up on Us.” His song “Silver Lady,” was No. 1 in the United Kingdom.

In recent years, Soul suffered from cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. But he never lost his sense of humor. Just months before he died in a London hospital, Soul pitched the idea of reprising the roles he and Glaser made famous in the reboot of “Starsky & Hutch”
