English professional footballer, Daniel Johnson Burn was born on May 9th, 1992 in Blyth, Northumberland in the United Kingdom.

Burn made his Football League debut in 2009 for Darlington, and after 19 games there, he signed for Fulham at the end of the 2010–11 campaign.

He made 41 appearances for Yeovil Town during his loan season in 2012–13, and he also played for Birmingham City for a portion of the 2013–14 campaign.

At the conclusion of the 2015–16 season, after his contract with Fulham expired, he joined Wigan Athletic. Prior to the 2018–19 season, Burn signed with Brighton & Hove Albion, however he was loaned back to Wigan until January 2019.

In the 2019–20 season, he established himself with Brighton as a consistent Premier League player, and in January 2022, he signed with his old club Newcastle United.

Burn admired Alan Shearer and grew up cheering for Newcastle United. Burn played youth football at neighborhood clubs New Hartley, Blyth Town, and Blyth Spartans before being released by Newcastle United at the age of 11.

When he was 16 years old, he started working at the Asda grocery store. On July 1, 2009, a Darlington scout noticed him playing for the Blyth Spartans and offered him a professional contract.

Burn was promoted to the first team for the first time and made his maiden appearance as an unused replacement in a 3-1 loss to Hereford United on October 31, 2009, as a result of the club’s financial issues and a lack of available players.

The following match, on March 6, 2010, between Darlington and Torquay United, which Darlington defeated 3-1, saw Burn make his debut. As Darlington was demoted to the Conference in 2009–10, he made four appearances.

Following this, Burn went back to the academy to continue his development before being called up to the first team by manager Mark Cooper, where he made his debut for the 2010–11 campaign on January 3, 2011, in a 3–1 victory over Barrow.

A agreement was reached on April 14, 2011, for Burn to sign with Premier League team Fulham at the conclusion of the 2010–2011 campaign for an estimated cost of £350,000. Burn was sent to the Fulham reserve team after joining the team to train and gain experience under Billy McKinlay, the reserve team manager.

Burn began a one-month youth loan with League One team Yeovil Town on September 25, 2012. He made his debut against Preston North End four days later. Burn scored his first senior goal a minute after scoring an own goal for Preston in the 86th minute.

Burn said he was eager to return to Yeovil Town before the 2013–14 season. Burn, though, signed a new contract with Fulham on July 3, 2013, keeping him with the team through at least 2015. He also went on a one-year loan to Birmingham City of the Championship.

He made his debut on August 3, 2013, in a 1-0 loss to Watford at home, and he continued to be a regular starter. On September 25, Birmingham defeated defending champion Swansea City 3-1 in the League Cup third-round match thanks in part to his first goal for the team, a header from a cross from Paul Caddis.

Burn made his first appearance of the 2014–15 campaign on August 30, 2014, in a 1–1 tie with Cardiff City. On September 23, 2014, he scored his first goal for Fulham against Doncaster Rovers in a League Cup match.

Burn committed to a three-year deal with Wigan Athletic, a recently promoted Championship team, to start when his deal with Fulham expired at the conclusion of the 2015–16 campaign. He was assigned to squad 33.

Burn started in Wigan Athletic’s season-opening loss against Bristol City, making his debut for the club. On August 9, 2018, Burn agreed to a four-year deal with Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed sum. He returned to Wigan Athletic on loan until January 2019.

On January 2, 2021, Burn scored an own goal, conceded a penalty, and was issued a yellow card in a game when Brighton rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-3 at home.

On January 28, 2022, Newcastle United, the team he backed and played for as a youth, made a £7 million offer for Burn, but Brighton turned it down. Burn committed to Newcastle for two and a half years on January 31 after a fee of £13 million was decided upon two days later.
