Damien Bendall admitted to killing his former spouse Terri Harris, her children Lacey Bennett, 11, John Paul Bennett, 13, and Lacey’s friend Connie Gent, 11.

He had earlier pleaded not guilty to the killings but did so on Wednesday when he appeared in Derby Crown Court and also acknowledged raping Lacey.

Connie had spent the night in the Killamarsh, near Sheffield, home of Ms. Harris, who was the mother of Lacey and John Paul.

Connie was only supposed to stay for one night, but she was able to secure her mother’s approval and, as the court heard, unluckily decided to stay an additional night, which happened to fall on the day of the attacks.

According to testimony given in court, Bendall, 32, is suspected of having searched the family house for each of his victims separately before killing them by attacking them in separate rooms.

In what prosecutor Louis Mably KC described to the court as “brutal, nasty, and cruel attacks” on a “defenceless” lady and three children, he killed the four victims at the home he lived with Ms Harris, 35.

According to Mr. Mably, Bendall beat them over the head and on the upper body while attacking them with a claw hammer.

Mr Mably said; “Their skulls were smashed in” and “it was perfectly clear none of the victims stood a chance,”

“One of the dreadful facts about this case is that during the attacks, the defendant raped 11-year-old Lacey.”

Ms Harris and the three children were found dead in Chandos Crescent on 19 September last year.
