He’s officially known as Harry Rodger Webb. Sir Cliff Richard is an English singer who holds both British and Barbadian citizenship. He’s best known for selling over 21.5 million singles in the United Kingdom becoming the 3rd-top-selling artist in UK Singles Chart history, behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley.
Sir Cliff Richard has also sold over 250 million records worldwide making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The decision was made in 1976 to repackage Richard as a rock artist. That year, Bruce Welch relaunched Cliff’s career and produced the landmark album I’m Nearly Famous, which included the successful but controversial guitar-driven track “Devil Woman”, which became Richard’s first true hit in the United States, and the ballad “Miss You Nights”.

Richard used the alias Blacknight to release a dance remix of his forthcoming single “Can’t Keep This Feeling In” on a white label in 1998, demonstrating that radio stations were refusing to play his music. Until the true artist was revealed, the song was featured on playlists.
The eight-CD box set And They Said It Wouldn’t Last was released in 2008, and it makes Richard’s 51st year in the music business (My 50 Years in Music). Cliff and the Shadows reunited on November 11, 2008, to commemorate their 50th anniversary in the music business, according to Richard’s official website. A month later, they appeared at the Royal Variety Performance. Cliff and the Shadows’ collaboration ended with the “Golden Anniversary concert tour of the United Kingdom” in 2009.
