During Monday, July 31, 2023, night’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Orioles, Bo Bichette, encountered a concerning non-contact injury to his right leg. The team later confirmed the injury as “right knee discomfort.” The following day, Jays manager John Schneider provided an update, stating that an MRI on Bichette’s knee showed inflammation but fortunately, there was no significant structural damage. Bichette’s condition is currently listed as day-to-day.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the third inning as Bichette rounded first base after hitting a single to right field. As he attempted to stop his progress toward second base, his right leg appeared to give out, leading to immediate concern. Subsequently, he was tagged out on the play, and with visible discomfort, he had to leave the field accompanied by a trainer. In the top of the fourth inning, Santiago Espinal replaced him at shortstop. The team and fans are hopeful for a speedy recovery for Bichette as they await further updates on his status.
