He’s best known on screen as the economics teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, as the host of Win Ben Stein’s Money, and as Dr. Arthur Neuman in The Mask and Son of the Mask.

Ben Stein also co-wrote and starred in the 2008 propaganda film Expelled promoting pseudoscientific intelligent design creationist claims of persecution

As a character actor, he’s well known for his droning, monotonous delivery. In comedy, he is known for his deadpan delivery.

As a lawyer, he was first a poverty lawyer in New Haven, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C. before becoming a trial lawyer for the Federal Trade Commission.

In February 2023, Ben Stein made headlines after he came under fire for his controversial comments regarding the rebranding of Aunt Jemima syrup.

It seems the rebrand has sparked some late controversy as the actor seems not to be happy with the new product even though the rebrand happened almost 3 years ago.

In a viral video, Ben Stein complains about the syrup, claiming he prefers the old branding claiming his reason was due to the “inherent racism of America’s corporate culture.”

*The syrup is now called Pearl Milling Company pancake syrup. The Aunt Jemima brand was retired in 2021

Ben Stein is upset that “Woke corporate culture” removed the image of a “large African-American woman” from his syrup bottle.
