English film and stage actor, Harry Bernard Cross was born on December 16th, 1947 in London in the United Kingdom.

He was the child of doorman Harry Cross and cleaner Catherine O’Donovan. Cross was eight years old when his father passed away from TB.

As a hired hand, Cross began his career by working as a window washer, waiter, and joiner. Also, he was the Property Master at the Birmingham theater known as The Alexandra and a carpenter for the Welsh National Opera.

He was accepted into London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1970 when he was 22 years old, although he afterward showed little enthusiasm in going the traditional art route.

In 1976, Cross made his big-screen debut in Joseph E. Levine’s epic film A Bridge Too Far, which also starred Dirk Bogarde, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, and James Caan. For the role of Trooper Binns, Cross traveled to Deventer, Netherlands.

Cross received praise and a recommendation for a prominent role in the 1981 multi-Oscar-winning movie Chariots of Fire during his performance in Chicago.

Following Chariots of Fire, Cross appeared in The Citadel, a 10-part BBC Television dramatization of A. J. In 2000, Cross portrayed Ikey Solomon in the Australian play The Potato Factory. Cross, a proponent of the death penalty, played a death row inmate in Bruce Graham’s play Coyote on a Fence in 2005 at the Duchess Theatre.
