In 1997 and 1998, when he was sponsored by Toy Machine Skateboards, Margera started his professional skateboarding career. In 2001, he joined Squad Element, the Element Skateboards demonstration team; however, as of 2016, he was no longer a member of the group.

He also occasionally received sponsorship from companies including Fairman’s Skateshop, Volcom, Landspeed Wheels, Destroyer Trucks, Electric Sunglasses, Adio Footwear, and Speed Metal Bearings.
